This is a unique opportunity to get up close to a nuclear reactor. Palo Verde is located 45 miles West of Phoenix off the I-10 and is the largest nuclear power plant in the United States serving about four million people.
The Palo Verde Generating Station is located in the Arizona desert, and it is the only large nuclear power plant in the world that is not located near a large body of water. The power plant evaporates the water from the treated sewage from several nearby cities and towns to provide the cooling of the steam that it produces.
Each tour is limited to 20 people, starts on site at 9:00am and is approximately 2 hours long. We'll receive an overview briefing before the walking tour. It does requires a lot of walking across a 4,000 acre campus, so you must be physically fit. There will also be turnstiles to go through and stairs to climb.
Considering the remote location we might want to organize ride shares. Tickets are limited to 2 per member.
Check the latest NAVIGATOR for details.
