This is a unique opportunity to get up close to a nuclear reactor. However, this tour requires a lot of walking across a very large 4,000 acre campus so you must be physically fit. Palo Verde is located 45 miles West of Phoenix off the I-10 and is the largest nuclear power plant in the United States serving
about four million people.
The Palo Verde Generating Station is located in the Arizona desert, and it is the only large nuclear power plant in the world that is not located near a large body of water. The power plant evaporates the water from the treated sewage from several nearby cities and towns to provide the cooling of the steam that it produces.
Each tour is limited to 20 people and starts on site at 9am. It starts with an overview briefing before a walking tour. Considering the remote location we might want to organize ride share. I will limit the tickets to 2 per member.
